Hanzhang Liu
Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science
Florida State University
I study authoritarian politics and political economy of development with a special focus on China. I am interested in authoritarian institutions and their role in mediating the relationship between the regime and the citizenry, especially as human capital grows. My research spans political selection and elite recruitment, information manipulation and political communication, and women in nondemocratic politics, all with an emphasis on implications for regime durability.
My work has been published or is forthcoming in peer-reviewed journals including the American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, Political Science Research and Methods, Political Communication, and Labour Economics. My research has been covered by media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg News.
I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University and a B.A. in Government and Economics from Smith College.
